A dog in the breed of the Bearded Collie is a pet that is not so big and has a weight of 40 to 58 lbs. Its height is within the range of 20 to 22 inches. It is an animal with plenty of fur which gives it a bigger look. It greets everyone with a joyful manner and strangers who would try to steal from your house are not an exception. So, you can't actually give this dog a task of guarding your family.

AKC acknowledges this pet. Different Bearded Collies can be seen in the colors grey, black, brown, fawn or tan and they have a few white spots. However in their young stage, the white spots might be there or not. The color of their fur can lose its intensity or can change as the years pass. They are usually seen having the color combinations of white and black or white and gray. Their shaggy and straight upper coat of great length as well as their thick and soft lower coat which is shorter needs to be brushed regularly to avoid any kind of entanglement. They are given the nickname of "beardie" for their fur below their chin which is long and shaggy.

This energetic, loving, happy-go-lucky breed makes an excellent family pet. They are people dogs and love to be with their family. They are wonderful for homes with children and other dogs and can do well with other non-canine pets provided they have early socialization. They are enthusiastic, outgoing, and lively and require plenty of exercise and play time. They need a yard to run and roam. Having toys on hand is a good idea if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time. Early training is recommended because they have a stubborn tendency at times. They are easy to train.

Scotland produced the Bearded Collie 50 decades ago. The pet's origin can be traced back to the Polish sheepdog. They are called "Collie" or "herding dog" for a Scottish because they have once served the purpose of dogs leading cattle and sheep. This practice is still done in few places. They were also tracking agents before.

Accommodating to all kinds of people, the Bearded Collie actively meets anyone. Since they need daily exercise and recreation outside, they are suitable for families which are enthusiastic as well. Whether you have other dogs and kids, an additional Bearded Collie is a huge plus for your whole family.
